Laser Hair Removal in Bristol: Do’s & Don’ts Before, During & After Treatment

If you're considering laser hair removal in Bristol, knowing how to prepare properly can dramatically improve your results.

At Skin & Beauty Box we run laser hair removal at two of our three salons, Clifton Down and Westbury on Trym, using medical-grade Lynton IPL for long-term hair reduction.

Before you book your first session, here’s everything you need to know about laser hair removal before care and aftercare.

Before Laser Hair Removal in Bristol – What You Should (and Shouldn’t) Do

DO Shave 24 Hours Before Your Appointment

Shaving ensures the laser targets the hair follicle beneath the skin. For best results at our Bristol laser clinics, shave the area 24 hours before treatment.

DON’T Wax, Thread or Pluck

Avoid waxing or plucking for at least 4 weeks before your laser hair removal treatment in Bristol.

DO Avoid Sunbeds and Tanning

Sun exposure increases the risk of pigmentation changes. Avoid tanning for 2 weeks before your appointment.

DON’T Apply Fake Tan

Laser detects pigment. Fake tan can interfere with your results and increase irritation risk.

Stop Active Skincare Before Facial Laser Hair Removal

If you're having facial laser hair removal in Bristol, avoid retinol and exfoliating acids 5–7 days before treatment.

What to Expect During Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment at Skin & Beauty Box

Patch Test & Consultation

All clients at our Bristol laser hair removal clinics receive a full consultation and patch test.

Mild Discomfort is Normal

Most clients describe the sensation as a light snapping feeling. Our advanced systems minimise discomfort.

Arrive Product-Free

No deodorant (underarms), makeup (face), or lotions before treatment.

Aftercare for Laser Hair Removal in Bristol – Protect Your Results

Soothe the Skin

Redness is normal for 24–48 hours. Use aloe vera or fragrance-free moisturiser.

Avoid Heat & Exercise for 24–48 Hours

No saunas, hot baths, steam rooms or intense workouts immediately after treatment.

Wear SPF Daily

Especially after facial laser hair removal, SPF 30+ is essential.

Don’t Wax Between Sessions

Shaving is fine. Waxing removes the follicle and disrupts your treatment cycle.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Will I Need?

Most clients require 8-10 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

Consistency ensures optimal long-term hair reduction.

Where we run laser hair removal

Laser hair removal runs at two of our three salons: Clifton Down and Westbury on Trym. Westbury Park does not have the machine, so book into one of the other two.

We use Lynton, a British manufacturer whose systems are used in NHS settings as well as private clinics. That matters more than it sounds, because IPL results depend heavily on how well the machine is built and calibrated.

Most areas of the face and body can be treated, from the lip and chin through to underarms, bikini, legs and back. The treatment page lists what each area costs and how long to allow for it.

Book laser hair removal in Bristol

Every course starts with a consultation and a patch test, so your practitioner can set the machine to your skin tone and hair type rather than working from a fixed protocol.

Book at Clifton Down or Westbury on Trym, and ask at the consultation how many sessions you are likely to need. It varies with hair colour, hair thickness and the area being treated, so a straight answer is only possible once someone has looked at your skin.

Book it: Lynton IPL hair removal, £55–£180, 15–60 mins. See the treatment page.
