What it is

HydraFacial uses a patented vortex tip to do six jobs in one appointment: cleanse, exfoliate, apply a gentle peel, extract debris, infuse hydration and protect. Rather than choosing between a deep cleanse, a peel and a hydrating mask, you get all three in sequence.

It suits almost everyone, which is why it has become the go-to before a wedding, a holiday or a big week at work. Your therapist will assess suitability on the day and adjust each step to your skin, so an oily, congested skin and a dry, sensitive one get very different settings.

How the session runs

Your therapist cleanses and exfoliates, then applies a gentle acid blend to loosen anything sitting in the pores. The vortex tip creates suction to lift that debris out, which most people find oddly satisfying. The same tip then floods the skin with antioxidants and peptides.

Red and infrared LED finishes the session. Lymphatic drainage is included in the longer options. Every step is adjusted to your skin on the day, so an oily, congested skin and a dry, sensitive one get very different settings.

What it feels like

The cleanse is gentle and fresh. The exfoliate gives a light, tingly sensation. The acid blend feels slightly warm on the skin for a few minutes. The vortex extraction is the most active part of the treatment, with a firm suction you can feel clearly, but it stops feeling intense after the first few passes.

The hydration infusion feels cool and soothing. The LED warmth is often the most relaxing part of the session, and most people drift off during it.

Afterwards

You can go straight back to your day. Makeup is fine immediately. Skin looks brighter and feels smoother the same afternoon, and the effect keeps building for the following week because the treatment clears the way for whatever you use at home.

Your own serums and moisturisers work noticeably harder in the week after treatment. If you want to keep the effect going, monthly sessions are the usual rhythm. Some people book before specific events, coming in about a week beforehand so their skin has settled into its best version.

HydraFacial versus other peels

HydraFacial does six steps in one session with no peeling skin afterwards and no real downtime, which is why it works as a lunchtime appointment. A chemical peel like Jan Marini is more active resurfacing but requires recovery time. Dermaplaning and microdermabrasion are single-mechanism exfoliation treatments.

Choose HydraFacial for combined cleansing, extraction and hydration. Choose a chemical peel if you want stronger exfoliation. Choose dermaplaning or microdermabrasion if you prefer physical exfoliation alone.

Common questions

What does HydraFacial actually do?

It runs six steps in sequence: cleanse, exfoliate, gentle chemical peel, vortex extraction, infusion of antioxidants and peptides, and LED. You get the benefits of a deep clean, a peel, a hydrating mask and an extraction in one treatment, customised to your skin on the day.

How much does a HydraFacial cost in the UK?

We offer three tiers at our Clifton salon. The Signature is £100 for the core six-step treatment. The Deluxe is £130 and adds a targeted booster, usually for a specific skin concern. The Platinum is £150 and includes lymphatic drainage on top. Booking time is 30, 45 or 60 minutes respectively.

How long does a Hydra facial last?

You will see a brightness boost the same afternoon, and the effect keeps improving for about a week as your skin absorbs better whatever you use at home. If you want to sustain the results, monthly sessions work well. The treatment is light enough that there is no real recovery period.
